Message from the President
What a year!! Politically speaking we have seen significant changes/shifts such as the appointment of a new Premier, Dominic Perrottet and recent Council Elections across the State. Despite numerous earlier cancellations due to COVID, the 'Trust' managed to organise the  'Meet the Candidates' forum, which provided our residents with 'face-to-face' election information.  Congratulations goes to re-elected Mayor Phillip Ruddock and Councillor  Emma Heyde as they continue their excellent work on behalf of the community. Representation of 'C Ward'  has changed with the election of - Verity Greenwood and Sreeni Pillamarri (and of course Emma) - we hope that now the election is over we can concentrate on Beecroft/Cheltenham community issues and projects. The 'Trust' looks forward to working very closely with these new Councillors.

The 'Trust' will meet for its last meeting in December and resume its work early next year. We have a lot to get on with!  On behalf of the 'Trust' we hope you and your family/friends have a very happy  prosperous Christmas (holiday season) and a great New Year.

Best Wishes
Julie ZetlerPresident.

Meet the Candidates, Beecroft Cheltenham Civic Trust Public Meeting.
A successful meeting was held at the Beecroft Presbyterian Church on the 25th of November.
The meeting was streamed live onto the internet and can still be viewed here;

                         Mayor Phillip Ruddock

The Trusts's President, Dr Julie Zetler presided over the meeting.
Three letters: A gift to the Trust.
The Trust has recently been given some papers by the family of John Noble that relate to the early activities of the Trust and which shine a light on almost 60 years of consistent activism, advocacy and collaboration by the Trust. As an example of how local action can happen, be sustained and be successful it is worth looking afresh at these three letters – copies of which can be viewed here CLICK HERE
The Beecroft Station Lift is now available for use

The initial plan for the station was to remove the sloping footpath up to Wongala Crescent.  The Trust was persistent in requesting the ramp be retained.
With the assistance of our State Member for Epping, Premier Dominic Perrottet, and some lateral thinking by the TNSW engineers, the Trust was able to persuade Transport NSW to retain the sloping footpath leading up to Wongala Crescent.
Another Seniors Development for Beecroft in Penrhyn Ave.
A Development Application has been lodged for Seniors Housing with 33 dwellings in Penrhyn Ave. Beecroft.
The Trust has written to the Hornsby Shire Council objecting to this development.

In general, there is an overall impression that the applicant is seeking maximum yield at the expense of better design, amenity and privacy.
While there is general compliance with the minimum SEPP
requirements, there are a number of issues that are of concern.

Proposed six storey shop top development at 5 Wongala Crescent Beecroft. DA20/2021.
The Trust is concerned with, and investigating the proposed location of an electrical transformer box that is required for this development.
The trust does not want to see a repeat of what happened with the transformer box for the Beecroft Plaza building.  The development will be determined by the Local Planning Panel this coming week. Click here to access plans of the proposed development.
